McCombs acceptance rate by program and entering class
The school labels its BBA rate 9% for 2025. Honors, transfer and MBA applicants belong to different reported populations.
In this guide
McCombs publishes a 9% BBA acceptance rate under its 2025 Admissions Statistics. That is its officially labeled undergraduate figure; it is not an MBA, Canfield honors, internal-transfer or residency-specific rate. Official BBA source
Choose the program and entry route before comparing a percentage. The table separates school-reported BBA information, university-wide first-year counts, the published Canfield sophomore pool and transfer/graduate instructions; none is a personal admission forecast.
Official BBA 2025 statistic and Canfield 2025/2026 sophomore counts checked October 27, 2026. Derived Canfield rates use admitted/applicant counts from those sophomore pools. BBA counts, residency breakdowns and personal probabilities are not inferred. Application instructions retain their own current cycle.
What the 9% figure tells you
The McCombs page supplies a rounded percentage without applicant and admit counts alongside it. Retain that precision. Writing 9.00%, reverse-engineering an exact number of offers or splitting it into Texas and non-Texas rates would add information the displayed statistic does not provide.

| Program / applicant group | Reported period | Supported rate or count | Source and limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| McCombs BBA | 2025 Admissions Statistics | 9% (school-reported, rounded) | BBA page; no matching applicant/admit counts supplied beside the rate |
| UT-wide first-year entry | Fall 2025, CDS C1 | 20,154 / 90,690 = 22.22% | Official CDS; not a college-specific rate |
| Canfield sophomore application | 2026 | 32 / 188 = 17.02% | Sophomore page; not freshman BBA or freshman honors |
| Canfield sophomore application | 2025 | 32 / 183 = 17.49% | Sophomore page; same pathway, different year |
| McCombs internal transfer | Current UT students, selected term | No acceptance rate inferred | Internal-transfer rules; GPA minimum and admitted averages are different measures |
| External transfer to BBA | Students applying from elsewhere | No rate inferred from freshman BBA | Transfer router; use its current requirements |
| Full-Time MBA | Graduate program / selected class | No MBA rate inferred from BBA | Official MBA program; separate application and profile |
The two Canfield percentages and university percentage are original calculations, rounded to two decimals. The BBA figure retains its source precision. These populations and years do not form a ranking of a person’s admission chances.
McCombs and UT Austin have different denominators
UT’s 2025–26 Common Data Set reports 20,154 first-year admits from 90,690 applicants for Fall 2025. That produces approximately 22.22% for the university-wide cohort. The UT acceptance-rate guide shows the calculation and source categories. Official Common Data Set
An acceptance rate normally compares offers with applications. Enrollment counts answer a later question: how many people arrived. If a hypothetical program admitted 900 of 10,000 applicants and enrolled 600, its admission rate would be 9%; dividing enrollees by applicants would instead produce 6%. Those are invented counts to illustrate the distinction, not McCombs data.
This is why a new estimate based on class size should not displace a school-reported rate. When another page gives a different percentage, check its cohort, numerator and source before comparing the numbers.
Choose the McCombs application route
First-year BBA applicant
Use the BBA first-year application. Its 2025 school-reported 9% statistic is historical context.
- Select Unspecified Business (200400) as first-choice major.
- Complete UT’s current freshman checklist, including its separate materials deadline.
- Add a separate Canfield application if pursuing that program.
Already enrolled at UT, seeking Business
Use internal transfer and the selected term’s residence, coursework and application rules. The BBA 9% is not an internal-transfer rate.
- Choose Spring or Fall before checking prerequisites.
- Separate the minimum 3.25 UT residence GPA from admitted averages.
- Check in-progress outside coursework and additional-major restrictions.
Applying from another college
Use McCombs’ external-transfer route. Neither university-wide transfer nor freshman BBA percentages define this pool.
- Check the required entry term and transferable prerequisite courses.
- Resolve equivalencies through official transfer-credit resources.
- If also considering Canfield, read its external-to-UT sophomore process.
Seeking Canfield as a sophomore
Use the sophomore application. The 2026 counts of 32 admitted from 188 applications describe that specific pathway.
- Confirm first-year eligibility, completed coursework and transfer restrictions.
- Follow the current-UT or external applicant process as appropriate.
- Check the current window, recommendation and interview instructions.
Seeking a Full-Time MBA
Use graduate MBA instructions and class-specific information. The undergraduate BBA figure does not describe MBA admission.
- Choose the MBA format and application round.
- Use that program’s current materials, tests and class profile.
- Keep graduate cost and financing separate from undergraduate COA.
What the published Canfield sophomore counts add
The official sophomore page lists 188 applications and 32 admits in 2026, compared with 183 applications and 32 admits in 2025. Our admitted/applicant calculation is 17.02% versus 17.49%, a 0.47 percentage-point decrease. Applications rose by five, or 2.73%, while the number admitted stayed 32. This compares these two published sophomore pools; it does not establish a trend or a freshman-honors rate.
The 2026 admitted average GPA is 3.98, compared with a 3.90 applicant average—a 0.08-point difference. For 2025, the published values are 3.98 and 3.88. A group average is neither the minimum accepted GPA nor a guarantee for someone above it. Canfield’s actual coursework, first-year eligibility and review remain separate.
The page says sophomore applications reopen February 1, 2027 and that information-session attendance is encouraged rather than required. Read its current coursework and transfer restrictions before planning classes around an assumed future honors place. Sophomore instructions and statistics

Does top-5% automatic admission include McCombs?
UT lists a top-5% automatic-admission threshold for eligible Summer/Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 applicants. Its review process also considers major selection. Qualifying for admission to the university does not establish an offer to the business major. Check the full eligibility rules for your situation. UT review and automatic-admission rules
Treat McCombs as a competitive program even when your university admission route is secure. A strong application should make your actual academic interests and experience legible; a headline percentage cannot show which part of your record an evaluator will consider most persuasive.
UT identifies academic preparation, class rank, tests, achievements, work and service, essays and the competitiveness of the requested major among its review factors. There is no basis here for declaring a particular SAT score a guaranteed McCombs offer.
Build the Fall 2027 application around the official checklist
McCombs directs prospective BBA applicants to select Unspecified Business (200400) as their first-choice major on the Common App. Its page says the BBA admits for fall entry and that Canfield Business Honors has additional application requirements. An honors application should therefore have its own checklist.
For Summer/Fall admission, UT currently lists October 15 for Early Action applications and October 22 for supporting materials. The regular application deadline is December 1, with supplemental materials due December 10. Its current page places Early Action decisions or deferrals by January 15, 2027, and decisions for deferred and regular applicants by February 15, 2027. UT freshman application requirements and dates
Track submission and completion separately. After applying, use MyStatus to resolve outstanding items; uploading a document is useful only if it satisfies the item required by the appropriate deadline. Recheck the live checklist before submitting, particularly if applying in a later cycle.
At this October 27, 2026 check, the listed Early Action application and materials dates have passed. For the regular path, the current page lists December 1 for the application and December 10 for supplemental materials; verify the active checklist before submitting.
Plan alternatives you would actually want to complete
An applicant considering another UT major should evaluate that degree on its own merits. Starting elsewhere at UT does not convert an uncertain McCombs offer into a promised future transfer. The maintained McCombs internal-transfer guide follows that distinct process and its dated requirements.
For a non-business major who wants business coursework, the Business Foundations Minor guide explains a separate credential. It is not a BBA admission route. Compare the degree, curriculum and cost you would accept if a later change never happened.
Use McCombs’ program-specific rankings to investigate academic fit, then compare the UT attendance budget with your actual offer. A useful application list contains programs you can explain, afford and willingly attend.
Keep unpublished breakdowns visible
The displayed 9% BBA statistic does not supply matching resident/nonresident or automatic/non-automatic applicant and offer counts. UT’s university-wide CDS residency columns cannot fill that school-specific gap. Keep those cells unavailable rather than distributing BBA admits in proportion to university enrollment.
Minimum GPA eligibility, admitted average GPA and acceptance rate answer different questions. The internal-transfer guide preserves term-specific prerequisites and source differences; the GPA calculator performs credit-weighted arithmetic, not admissions scoring.
For cost, use the 2026–27 tuition and attendance guide, with the current traditional Business college row and your actual aid offer. A page containing a dated admission statistic does not establish the academic year of every price elsewhere on it.
Questions answered
What is the McCombs BBA acceptance rate and year?
The official BBA page labels its acceptance rate 9% under 2025 Admissions Statistics. Keep that program, year and source precision. Matching applicant and offer counts are not supplied beside the rounded statistic.
Official program source · Checked 2026-10-27
Is 9% for MBA or undergraduate applicants?
It is labeled BBA, the undergraduate business program. MBA applicants belong to a graduate program with separate rounds and class information. Do not apply the BBA rate to an MBA format.
Official program source · Checked 2026-10-27
How do Canfield and internal transfer differ?
Canfield Business Honors has its own application; the 188 applications and 32 admits published for 2026 describe sophomore admission. Internal transfer is for current UT students seeking the BBA, with term-specific residence, GPA and prerequisite rules. Neither is inferred from BBA’s 9%.

Does UT automatic admission include McCombs?
University admission and major selection are separate. Meeting UT’s applicable automatic-admission conditions does not establish a business-major offer. Read the intended cycle and current program requirements.
