McCombs
internal transfer

A guide for current UT Austin students applying to the BBA program.

Already enrolled at UT Austin? Use McCombs’ internal-transfer process. Meeting the minimum requirements lets your application be considered; it does not guarantee admission. If you attend another university, start with the separate transfer routes.

Choose the admission term.

The current autumn application window is for Spring 2027. Keep that term beside the December deadline when planning your application.

Read the school checklist.

McCombs lists a 3.25 minimum UT in-residence GPA, 24 hours in residence and an application within your first four UT long semesters. Keep residence hours separate from your total college credits.

Calculus I & II
Use the official course list and alternatives. Credit source matters: AP M 408R satisfies Calculus I only; UT in-residence M 408R and M 408Q have separate provisions for both requirements.
Economics
ECO 304K and ECO 304L.
Rhetoric
RHE 306 is required from Spring 2027 onward. Check the applicable term’s checklist.

The flyer excludes pass/fail, placement, extension, correspondence, PED and transfer credit from the 24 residence hours. It also says academic and disciplinary standing are considered. For fall admission, prerequisites must be finished by spring’s end; later summer courses do not count. The school permits outside-UT in-progress prerequisites for fall. See the Spring wording difference below.

Two official sources differ.

Ask McCombs to clarify these points before relying on them for your application.

Spring prerequisite completion

The school webpage permits completion by fall’s end and only UT in-progress prerequisites after December 1. The flyer says completion by December 1 while also allowing UT in-progress work. If a prerequisite is unfinished or taken elsewhere, confirm how the rule applies to your record.

90 or more college hours

The webpage recommends considering alternatives at 90+ hours. The flyer describes fewer than 90 hours as a restriction, excluding hours earned during high school. Those statements do not establish the same cutoff; obtain clarification for your admission term.

Prepare, then apply.

  1. Confirm your term and major change. Spring admission replaces your current major. Use the spring instructions when deciding whether that change fits your plan.
  2. Make a course-and-credit checklist. Record each prerequisite, where you took it and its completion term. Note whether it appears as AP, UT residence or transfer credit; the school treats some credit sources differently. Check UT’s transfer-credit resources for equivalency questions, then resolve the source differences above with McCombs.
  3. Prepare your materials. UT’s process includes a resume and college-specific questions. McCombs lists a required statement of up to 500 words and an optional academic-circumstances response of up to 500 words. Follow the active application’s exact prompts and limits.
  4. Submit through the official portal. Select the intended cycle, review every response, submit before the deadline and retain the confirmation. Use your term’s decision window above when checking the result.

McCombs recommends an information session; attendance is optional. Its review considers academic work along with involvement, leadership, employment and circumstances. A minimum GPA does not translate into personal admission odds.
