McCombs rankings: BBA and MBA

The BBA is tied sixth in the 2027 U.S. News edition. An MBA rank, specialty rank and research rank answer different questions.

In this guide

McCombs’ BBA is tied No. 6 nationally and No. 3 among public schools in the 2027 U.S. News undergraduate business rankings, announced by the school on September 22, 2026. Five schools share sixth place. That is the undergraduate result; it should not be substituted for a Texas McCombs MBA ranking. Dated BBA announcement

A useful ranking comparison keeps four fields together: program, publisher, edition or publication date, and geographic scope. With those fields missing, “McCombs is sixth” can send a prospective student toward the wrong comparison.

Checked October 26, 2026. Undergraduate results follow McCombs’ September 22, 2026 report on the 2027 U.S. News edition. Graduate entries retain the publication dates and geographic labels in the school’s current rankings table. These measures do not establish admission odds or individual career outcomes.

Which McCombs program is being ranked?

The school’s rankings table lists several graduate formats and publishers. The selected entries below retain its dates. A label such as “in the U.S.” describes a national position within that publisher’s list; it does not give the program’s worldwide position. McCombs rankings table

Selected results, not a combined league table. Undergraduate edition and graduate publication dates are labeled separately. Positions from different publishers should not be averaged.

Undergraduate finance, accounting and MIS have their own ranks

The September 2026 BBA announcement identifies ten specialties in the U.S. News top ten. For common searches, accounting is third, management information systems fourth, and finance and marketing fifth. These are subject-level rankings, not four different overall BBA positions.

The same announcement lists entrepreneurship and management at sixth, production/operations at seventh, and real estate, insurance and quantitative analysis at eighth. It describes ten top-ten specialties for the 2027 edition. Older references to twelve should keep their older year attached.

Start with the field you expect to study, then inspect its courses and requirements. A subject ranking can help identify a program to investigate; it cannot tell you whether the electives you want will fit your degree plan or be offered in the semester you need.

What the undergraduate ranking actually measures

McCombs explains that the U.S. News undergraduate business result uses surveys of deans and program directors at AACSB-accredited programs. Read it as a reputation-based comparison within that methodology, rather than a direct measurement of your future salary or teaching in a particular course.

Before comparing two schools, hold the publisher and edition constant. Comparing one school’s U.S. News undergraduate position with another school’s Financial Times MBA position changes the students, program and measuring system at once.

Also preserve ties. A shared sixth place does not create an evidence-based ordering among the five schools tied there. If the next decision is where to apply, compare your intended curriculum, net cost, location and realistic alternatives rather than inventing a distinction the ranking did not make.

Research rank and graduate outcomes need separate evidence

The school also lists a No. 12 Financial Times Global MBA research rank dated February 2026 and a No. 12 UT Dallas worldwide business-school research rank dated March 2026. Those are research entries. They should not appear in a table as the BBA’s overall world ranking.

For career comparisons, look for a report covering the same degree and graduating class. Check which graduates are included, how many responded, the reporting period and whether compensation is base salary or includes another component. A salary headline from an earlier class cannot settle what a current applicant will earn.

If a program is being renamed, check the current program page before carrying an old ranking label into a new application. The school’s rankings page currently mixes historic results with current program names; match the award to the program actually evaluated.

Use the rank to build a better shortlist

For BBA applicants, pair the ranking with the official McCombs acceptance-rate context and the degree you would choose if business admission did not work out. Rankings supply neither admission odds nor an admission guarantee.

A non-business UT student considering introductory business study should compare the Business Foundations Minor with the courses that serve their major. The BBA ranking does not turn the minor into the same degree.

Finally, price attendance and the daily routine. The McCombs off-campus housing comparison separates the BBA destination from Rowling Hall and tests a rent premium against a declared commute scenario. A ranking becomes useful when it leads to a program and budget you would actually choose.
