UT Austin / Financial aid & cost
UT Austin financial aid and scholarships
For UT Austin financial aid, submit the correct annual aid application and use My Financial Aid for the selected academic year; UT’s FAFSA school code is 003658. Texas Advance Commitment distinguishes tuition coverage up to $100,000 family AGI from some tuition support above $100,000 through $125,000, subject to its actual eligibility rules.
| Published AGI band and tuition scope | Conditions and excluded scope |
|---|---|
| Up to $100,000: eligible tuition covered with grants/scholarships; threshold expanded beginning Fall 2025 | Texas residency, need, first-degree/entry and renewal/enrollment rules; not full living costs |
| Over $100,000 through $125,000: some assistance toward tuition | Not a promise of full tuition coverage or a stated individual award amount |
Official program source checked October 27, 2026. Read all eligibility and enrollment-adjustment rules; income alone does not determine an award. The program is not currently awarded for summer.

What the data adds
- The support ceiling is a different band, not a higher full-coverage limit
- The two published AGI boundaries are $25,000 apart. The $125,000 support ceiling is 25% above the $100,000 tuition-coverage boundary; that arithmetic does not turn support into full coverage.Original $125,000 − $100,000 and $25,000 ÷ $100,000 calculations using the current program thresholds. The amounts describe family AGI, not the value of an award or an eligibility result. UT Admissions — Texas Advance Commitment thresholds, conditions and 2025–26 housing label · checked
- Tuition coverage leaves a separate published non-tuition budget
- The 2026–27 undergraduate on/off-campus components total $21,650–$21,810 before tuition: housing/food, transport, books and personal costs. These planning costs are outside a tuition-only commitment.Original sum: $15,420–$15,580 + $1,840 + $724 + $3,666, for the published fall/spring full-time undergraduate scenario based on 12-hour enrollment. It is not a personalized bill, twelve-month lease budget or a statement that other aid will not help. Submit for the correct year and distinguish scholarship routes
- Confirm the academic award year before starting or reviewing an aid form.
- Use the appropriate official FAFSA or TASFA instructions; One Stop lists FAFSA code 003658 and annual submission.
- Read the current year’s official deadlines and required documents rather than applying a remembered year.
- Use incoming-student MyStatus scholarship questions or the separate continuing-student application as applicable.
- Review My Financial Aid for your actual outstanding actions and result.
One Stop’s recurring overview lists months for application availability, processing and package releases. Its current portal notice specifically discusses 2026–27 awards on a rolling basis. A month-only overview is not an invented exact-day deadline for another award year.
For scholarships, incoming and continuing students have different workflows. The current page says incoming students have no separate general scholarship application and use admission/MyStatus questions; continuing students use the Continuing & Transfer Student Scholarship Application through LASSO. Named awards can still have their own requirements.

Projected, awarded, scheduled and disbursed are different states
Find the next official step for your aid status
This route finder does not request income, an EID or a financial-aid file. Choose the public instructions that match the state you actually see in the university system.
6 paths shown. Choose a path when the optional filter is available.
Start or check the annual aid application
Choose the intended academic year. One Stop lists UT’s FAFSA school code as 003658 and calls for a new FAFSA each year; use the appropriate FAFSA or TASFA route for your situation.
- Open One Stop’s official application guidance and confirm the award year.
- Review that year’s state, university and federal deadlines in the applicable official instructions.
- After submission, resolve the actual university requirements rather than assuming an application equals an award.
The portal says Projected or shows an outstanding action
Projected aid may not disburse until a specific action is completed. Open the selected year and the actual outstanding requirement; do not treat a projected line as released cash.
- Select the relevant academic year in Financial Information.
- Read the item’s status and outstanding actions/documents.
- Complete the required official workflow and check its posted result.
The portal says Awarded
One Stop says an Awarded line needs no additional action for that status. It still distinguishes award amounts, scheduled receipt and actual disbursement, and Federal Direct Student Loans have their own acceptance process.
- Check the selected year, award type, offered amount and status.
- Read the scheduled receipt section separately from the award line.
- Use the official loan-specific instructions if applicable; an offered loan is borrowed aid, not a scholarship.
Aid covers tuition, or my tuition bill is zero
My Financial Aid and My Tuition Bill serve different steps. Use the bill’s financial-aid payment or zero-bill attendance confirmation instructions and verify registration is secured.
- Read the actual My Tuition Bill deadline and applicable payment/confirmation option.
- Resolve outstanding financial-aid requirements in the correct year.
- Check the university completion message; an expected refund is not a completed lease payment.
Incoming student · scholarship consideration
The current application page says incoming students apply for admission by December 1 and have scholarship-specific questions through MyStatus. Do not copy the continuing-student scholarship application into the incoming route.
- Use the current admission cycle and required materials.
- Complete applicable MyStatus scholarship questions and the appropriate aid application.
- Read any named scholarship’s own conditions and deadline.
Continuing student · scholarship application
The current recurring guidance describes a separate Continuing & Transfer Student Scholarship Application, opening in November with a March 15 deadline through LASSO. Confirm the award year and actual open application in the official portal.
- Follow the current One Stop link to LASSO.
- Select the actual scholarship/application and award year.
- Keep its requirements separate from annual FAFSA/TASFA and any specific named award.
In My Financial Aid, select the relevant year under Financial Information. Read the estimated education cost, the aid entries and their statuses, then the scheduled receipt section. Those are related records with different meanings.
The official instructions say Projected aid may need action before disbursement, while Awarded status needs no additional action for that line. Award eligibility can still change after verification or new information. Only the actual scheduled/released record establishes that timing; the public guide does not read your account.
One Stop describes Federal Direct Student Loans as the aid type requiring the separate acceptance workflow. Do not automatically count an offered loan as accepted funds, gift aid or a recommendation to borrow.

| Scholarships | Need and/or merit-based gift aid | Named award, period, eligibility and renewal |
| Loans | Borrowed funds requiring repayment | Offered, accepted and released amounts are separate; read actual terms |
| Work-Study | Part-time jobs for eligible students with financial need | Earned pay is not an immediate automatic tuition payment |

Read all Texas Advance Commitment conditions
The published requirements include Texas residency, a FAFSA or TASFA, demonstrated need and the applicable first-bachelor’s, entry and annual renewal rules. The program uses federal/state grants first and adds university grants or scholarships as needed for eligible tuition coverage or support. You may not see a line literally named Texas Advance Commitment in the portal.
Enrollment needs its own check. The overview describes full-time students; its enrollment FAQ says eligible students at or below the $100,000 boundary have assistance adjusted to applicable tuition based on full- or part-time enrollment as of the 12th class day. Ask One Stop how the current rule and your actual award apply instead of inferring eligibility from income alone.
The source says Texas Advance Commitment is not currently awarded during summer. Eligible new or transfer students entering in summer receive these funds beginning in the following fall. Renewal depends on the annual file and the stated academic-progress/other conditions; an initial award does not guarantee every future term.

Other grants, scholarships or earned funds may help with non-tuition costs, but the tuition commitment alone does not establish that funding. Use the attendance-budget guide to compare the applicable scenario and your housing agreement’s full period.

Finish the bill and attendance step separately
An expected aid award is not the same as a secured registration or a released refund. Follow My Tuition Bill’s financial-aid payment or attendance-confirmation instructions and resolve outstanding requirements in My Financial Aid. A zero tuition bill can still require confirming attendance before the deadline.
For the account routes and completion message, use What I Owe and My Tuition Bill. Keep actual tuition due dates, aid receipt dates and housing installments beside one another without treating a projected refund as a completed rent payment.

Does $125,000 family AGI mean free tuition?
No. The current program describes eligible tuition coverage up to $100,000 family AGI and some tuition support above $100,000 through $125,000. Texas residency, demonstrated need, first-degree/entry, enrollment and renewal requirements also apply; income alone is not an award decision.

Does Texas Advance Commitment pay for housing or summer?
The commitment applies to tuition and is not currently awarded during summer. Other aid may help with living costs. The page’s housing-scholarship example is explicitly labeled 2025–26, so it is not a guaranteed current-year housing award.

Is there a separate scholarship application?
The current guidance distinguishes incoming admission/MyStatus scholarship consideration from the separate continuing-student scholarship application through LASSO. Read the actual award year and named scholarship’s requirements instead of treating one route as universal.
