What I Owe at UT Austin: which bill needs action?
Choose the right university system, follow your own deadline, and verify the posted result.
In this guide
For What I Owe at UT Austin, use the official university billing page. For initial tuition payment and attendance confirmation, use My Tuition Bill through Texas One Stop. A zero tuition balance still requires the attendance-confirmation step before the displayed deadline.
The useful question is which charge remains unresolved and which system records its completion. An aid offer, a payment attempt and secured registration are different records. Start with the bill and its term rather than treating every university balance as one payment.
Official public billing workflow checked October 27, 2026. The tuition comparison uses published 2026–27 traditional undergraduate 12+hour semester ranges. It is not a private balance or an aid award; My Tuition Bill controls the student’s deadline and required action.
Match the charge to its account
Use My Tuition Bill for tuition/attendance confirmation, What I Owe for the charges routed there, and My Financial Aid for enrollment and outstanding aid requirements. Parking and tuition loans can have separate account systems, as the university payment resource explains.
Accounting and Financial Management says many departments bill through What I Owe, while tuition is posted and paid through My Tuition Bill. Some charges, including Parking bills, use the billing department’s own system. Tuition loans have a separate My Tuition Loans page.
Make a short reconciliation list: charge description, term, amount, due date and responsible department. If a charge is unfamiliar, use its billing detail and department contact rather than paying a similarly named item in another account.

Choose the billing question you need to resolve
Tuition or attendance confirmation
Start with My Tuition Bill using the official One Stop entry.
- Read your own payment deadline and required action.
- Use the applicable payment, aid or zero-bill path.
- Check the posted registration-complete message.
A charge listed in What I Owe
Use the official What I Owe entry for the particular charge and its updated status.
- Identify the department and term attached to the item.
- Check whether its payment is routed through What I Owe or a separate university system.
- Keep the item’s receipt/status rather than treating all balances as one bill.
My tuition bill is zero
One Stop still requires attendance confirmation by the deadline shown on My Tuition Bill.
- Use the official My Tuition Bill system.
- Follow its Confirm Attendance action before your listed deadline.
- Verify the posted result; a zero balance alone is not that confirmation.
Aid covers tuition but a balance still shows
Read both the aid requirements and the official Pay with Financial Aid workflow.
- Check enrollment and outstanding My Financial Aid requirements through One Stop.
- If aid fully covers tuition, follow the current bill’s stated financial-aid confirmation path.
- A balance can remain until disbursement; check the registration result before making a duplicate payment.
Partial payment or installment instructions
Read the current policy alongside your actual tuition bill.
- The public minimums are $1,500 resident and $5,000 nonresident for the stated confirmation path.
- The remaining amount is due on the 12th class day; the page describes a $15 installment fee if it remains unpaid.
- Summer installments are unavailable; zero-bill and aid cases have separate instructions.
The confirmation minimum is not the tuition price
The current installment instructions list $1,500 for Texas residents and $5,000 for nonresidents as minimum confirmation amounts. The remaining tuition balance is due on the 12th class day; if left unpaid then, the page describes automatic installment treatment with a $15 fee. Summer sessions do not have that installment option. Use the zero-bill or financial-aid workflow when it applies, rather than treating this cash-payment minimum as universal.
Two original comparisons show the scale. Against the published 2026–27 traditional 12+hour undergraduate semester tuition endpoints, $1,500 represents 22.10–27.63% of the resident range, while $5,000 represents 19.57–23.50% of the nonresident range. This arithmetic explains why confirmation is a different state from paid in full.
For example, the published Business row is $6,788 resident or $25,553 nonresident per semester at 12+ hours. Subtracting the policy minimum from those tuition-only figures gives $5,288 or $20,553; these are worked differences, not a remaining-account-balance calculation. Actual fees, aid, deposits, adjustments and your bill determine the account.

| Published 2026–27 comparison | Tuition / semester at 12+ hours | Current confirmation minimum | Minimum as share of tuition endpoints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Texas resident | $5,429–$6,788 | $1,500 | 22.10–27.63% |
| Nonresident | $21,277–$25,553 | $5,000 | 19.57–23.50% |

A zero bill can still need confirmation
Texas One Stop instructs students with a $0 tuition bill to confirm attendance in My Tuition Bill before the 5 p.m. deadline shown there. Otherwise, registration can be canceled. The amount due and the required confirmation are separate checks.
Read the account’s completion message after following its payment or aid instructions. Do not substitute an email notification, a bank transaction screenshot or an assumed scholarship balance for the registration status shown by the university.
Aid coverage and aid release are separate
One Stop explains that eligible students whose aid fully covers tuition should select the financial-aid payment option in My Tuition Bill. The bill can retain a balance until the aid is released. If the aid does not cover the full bill, the remaining amount needs attention by the payment deadline.
For a useful inquiry, record the term, aid requirement still outstanding and the account message you see. Ask One Stop whether the issue is attendance confirmation, an incomplete aid requirement or an uncovered balance. Those require different next steps.
Check the payment route before paying again
AFM lists online eCheck, electronic funds transfer and card options for the accounts covered by its payment guidance. EFT requires prior setup. A method available in one university checkout does not establish that every department accepts it.
Transcript PDF orders are a concrete exception worth recognizing: One Stop directs them to a separate checkout during ordering. Follow the instructions for the selected service and retain its receipt. If a payment appears unresolved, check that order’s status before creating a duplicate purchase.
Keep university charges beside the lease calendar
For a West Campus renter, make separate rows for university tuition, university charges and the apartment lease. Put each actual due date beside the funding source that will be available by then. A future refund is not a completed rent payment.
If the cash-flow problem is a mismatch between aid timing and a lease installment, identify the amount and date of that gap before asking about options. Use the attendance-cost guide for the university’s planning period and the apartment comparison for the complete housing commitment.
Questions answered
Where is the official What I Owe page?
Use UTDirect’s official What I Owe entry linked here. It requires your EID to show personal balances. This public guide routes the task; your actual item, term and university payment record determine what remains due.

Is What I Owe the same as My Tuition Bill?

Do I need to act on a zero tuition bill?
Yes. One Stop says a zero bill still requires Confirm Attendance on My Tuition Bill before the deadline on that bill. Check the posted result rather than assuming a zero balance completed registration.

Why is a balance visible when aid covers tuition?
One Stop explains that a balance can remain until aid is released. Follow the applicable Pay with Financial Aid workflow and resolve enrollment/outstanding aid requirements; check your bill’s registration status and personal deadline instead of paying twice based only on the visible balance.
Official source · Checked 2026-10-27
How can I verify registration is complete?
After the applicable action posts, One Stop says My Tuition Bill displays the registration-complete and courses-secure confirmation. A payment attempt, an aid offer or adding classes does not independently establish that posted result.
