UT Austin majors and degree programs

To compare UT Austin majors, start with the program, awarding school and degree credential, then check that school’s entry rules and your catalog-year requirements. Admissions describes 170+ areas of study; that is not an exact count of standalone majors, and honors, dual and integrated paths have distinct meanings.

What the data adds

One source row can contain several credential choices
15 of 128 current catalog school-table rows list more than one degree abbreviation—11.72% of these catalog entries. Biology, for example, lists BSA and BSBio in the same row.Original row-level screen of the official major/degree tables, excluding department headings and separate dual/integrated tabs. Credentials in one row are not counted as separate majors; professional PharmD is retained with its actual type. Two broad schools account for nearly half of this table
Liberal Arts has 42 program/degree rows and Natural Sciences 21: together 63 of 128, or 49.22%, of the retained table. This helps locate related options before narrowing to one degree.Original count by the source’s school headings, checked October 27, 2026. Original catalog tables ↗. Department headings are excluded; multiple degree abbreviations stay in one source row. Dual/integrated tables are separate source sections. Program and school labels can differ from the Admissions presentation.

The catalog table links each school’s curriculum source. Use that school catalog to open the actual program requirements, then choose the applicable catalog year and degree plan with advising. The directory is a comparison of published labels, not an automated degree-requirement database.

A row with two or three credentials does not mean those curricula or admission processes are interchangeable. For example, the source lists Design as BADesign/BFA and Physics as BA/BSA/BSPhy. Compare the intended degree’s requirements rather than selecting by the shared field name alone.

Selected examples from the current official Admissions program page, checked October 27, 2026. Read the complete school-specific list for the current cycle and your applicant type.

The 2027 admissions guide separates applicant pathways, application and material deadlines, testing and MyStatus. A general university offer, automatic-admission eligibility and selection for the requested major are different decisions.

For a second-choice major, UT’s FAQ says you may be considered if you qualify for automatic admission and are not admitted to the first choice. That is conditional consideration, not a guaranteed backup route. Choose an actual academic fit and read the official policy.

Honors, dual and integrated programs are different options

An honors program adds its own admission and curriculum requirements. A dual degree is an approved route to two degree credentials; an integrated undergraduate/graduate program connects those stages. Do not count a label with “honors” or a combined plan as simply another interchangeable standalone major.

Architecture/Architectural Engineering is marked as a dual degree on Admissions. Integrated MPA is marked as an integrated undergraduate/graduate program. Texas CSB and ECB are additional combined honors paths with their own requirements; a BBA major list does not describe all of their application rules.

For McCombs, the BBA program comparison keeps Canfield and iMPA distinct and shows why the catalog-year plan matters. A degree audit can compare program progress; it does not approve a new major or combined plan by itself.

Use course facts after choosing the program question

  1. Record the intended school, program, credential and applicant entry term.
  2. Open its official curriculum and the applicable catalog-year plan.
  3. Check current prerequisites, credit exclusions and course restrictions in the course explorer and original catalog.
  4. Use the actual Course Schedule for current offerings, seats and times; a catalog description is not a section.
  5. Run your degree audit and take unresolved placement or substitution questions to the authorized adviser.

Historical grades add a dated aggregate with its denominator and coverage limits. They cannot identify the best major for a person, establish an available seat or predict a degree or employment result. Read the grade-data guide before comparing historical distributions.

Read the directory’s counts with their scope

This page retains 128 rows from fifteen school groups in the official degree-program overview tables. It excludes department headings and keeps several credentials in one source row. It does not reconcile the catalog into the Admissions page’s broader 170+ areas, and it does not imply that each row is a currently open freshman major.

The source includes Pharmacy with PharmD, which is labeled professional in this directory. It also places Strategy and Statecraft under Undergraduate Studies in its table, while Admissions presents the Clements Center partnership. Those source presentations should not be converted into an invented school-ownership or degree-count claim.

Sources were checked October 27, 2026. Program names, plans and entry availability can change; use the current official page and your applicable catalog when making the actual plan.

Questions answered

Which majors and programs are available at UT Austin?

Use the official Admissions Academic Degrees directory and current catalog. Admissions describes 170+ areas of study; this page’s filter retains 128 program/degree rows from fifteen catalog school groups under a different stated scope. Neither number is an interchangeable count of standalone majors.

Which school offers my program?

The directory retains the catalog school heading and links its curriculum source. Check the actual program and credential, especially for joint or integrated offerings. A course department is not enough to establish the awarding school or a degree plan.

Do I apply directly to a specific major?

Follow the school’s instructions. McCombs applicants use unspecified business and choose a specific undergraduate major after enrollment; other schools have program-specific application and entry-term rules. Admission to UT does not guarantee every requested major.

What additional application materials are required?

It depends on the applicant type and school. The official program page includes requirements such as calculus readiness, creative material, portfolios or transfer coursework. Use that current list and MyStatus rather than borrowing another school’s checklist.

How do honors, dual and integrated programs differ?

Honors has its own additional admission/curriculum rules. A dual degree is an approved route to two credentials; an integrated undergraduate/graduate program connects those stages. Keep the actual program label and plan rather than counting each as an interchangeable major.

Will my second-choice major be considered?

UT’s FAQ says you may be considered for the second choice if you qualify for automatic admission and are not admitted to the first choice. That conditional policy is not a guarantee of a backup major or admission to a high-demand school.
