UT Austin parking permits and visitor options, 2026–27

Pick the trip and access hours first. Compare the current permit price with its actual period, garage and exceptions.

In this guide

For 2026–27 UT Austin parking, start with a daytime commute, a UHD residence-hall contract, evening/weekend access or a short visit. PTS lists annual C at $184, C+ at $277 and S at $883 (East Campus Garage $369), while N/N+ provide limited evening/weekend access at $56/$93 for their full permit terms. Current student permit table

These are maximum prices for the full stated permit term, with daily prorating afterward. They do not reserve a nearby space or include apartment parking; check the selected class, garage, hours and event restrictions before comparing a total.

PTS 2026–27 published maximum full-term prices and class-specific rules checked October 27,2026. Later purchases are prorated daily; available spaces and an individual charge require the official portal. Apartment parking remains a separate agreement; no purchase or account access is performed.

Choose the permit around residence and parking hours

Start with whether you have a university residence-hall contract, where the car must stay and when you will return. Then compare the permitted garage or lot with the building you actually need to reach.

PTS describes Class C parking as space-available and does not limit C permit sales. A purchased C permit therefore should not be read as an assigned stall near a particular classroom. Class R permits are sold in limited numbers and apply to the assigned garage.

Daytime off-campus commuter

Compare C/C+ with an available S garage, then the walk or shuttle to your actual building.

  1. C is $184 annual maximum and space available; C+ is $277 with added specified access.
  2. An S garage is $883 annual maximum, or $369 at ECG; check the purchased garage and current availability.
  3. C/Longhorn 3–5 a.m. restrictions mean a daytime permit does not solve continuous storage.

What the published differences buy

An original comparison of the same annual C-family prices gives $93 more for C+ than C: $277−$184. The N-family full-term difference is $37 for N+ over N: $93−$56. Those increments purchase the stated additional access, not a reserved stall or daytime access for a night permit.

The standard annual S maximum is $514 above the ECG annual S price: $883−$369. That compares two listed garage-price options, not equivalent locations or available spaces. Add the applicable storage fee before using it as an overnight-cost comparison.

Evening access has an end time

PTS lists N surface access from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on weeknights and from Friday5:45 p.m. to Monday7:30 a.m. for the relevant Any UT Permit spaces. Longhorn Lots retain their 3–5 a.m. exclusion. Intramural Fields has a different 4 p.m. start. Read the exact location, not one universal nighttime window.

N+ garage access runs 5 p.m.–4 a.m. on weeknights and Friday5 p.m.–Monday 4 a.m. on weekends. The page excludes Conference Center, Health Center, Nueces and Rowling Hall garages. The surface-lot rules are separate. These are not unrestricted 24-hour storage products. Current night-parking rules

A C permit is not overnight vehicle storage

The current C page says C and Longhorn Lots do not allow parking from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. It describes the permit as intended for people coming to and leaving campus each day. That restriction matters if an apartment has no parking and the plan is to leave the car on campus overnight. C hours and alternatives

PTS lists alternatives including an S permit with an overnight storage fee for non-dorm residents, an R permit for dorm residents, and hourly garage parking. It also describes other lots that open to any UT permit during specified hours. Read the exact location and time conditions before treating that as permission to stay.

For a multi-day absence, check the full period rather than only arrival time. A space available on Friday evening may have a different rule before Monday morning or during a campus event.

Garage access still has a location and an exception list

The R page says the permit is valid in the garage purchased and describes general 24/7 access with exceptions. It also notes upper-level parking restrictions during weekdays. “Garage permit” is not a universal right to every garage and every stall. R permit scope

C parking can be relocated for events, and PTS directs drivers to signs and email notices. Check those messages before leaving a vehicle through an event period. The permit’s ordinary weekday use is only part of the operating conditions.

Use the current PTS site and Parking Profile for the available product and its price. Keep the permit period, garage, storage option and any event conditions with the quote so the total can be compared with another commute plan.

For Manor and Trinity, PTS says a Moody Center event may prevent permit holders from entering while event staff control entrances, typically beginning 2–3 hours before showtime. Existing parked cars are not required to relocate for those Moody events, but that does not promise re-entry. Check the official disruptions page and any separate football or other event notice.

Compare apartment parking with a complete commute

For a West Campus quote, ask whether parking is included or optional, whether the space is assigned, the access hours and the full contract cost. Check clearance, charging or other requirements if they affect your vehicle. Confirm which document controls a change or cancellation.

Then test the walk from that building to the classes you expect to attend. UT’s neighborhood guide describes West Campus broadly between Guadalupe and Lamar, from Martin Luther King Boulevard to 28th Street. That entire area is not one interchangeable walking distance. UT neighborhood guide

Use the maintained housing map to identify candidate buildings, then inspect the actual entrance and route. A map marker is a useful start, not a measured door-to-classroom travel time.

Compare the full period, including the option to leave the car

An academic-year permit, an apartment’s recurring parking charge and a visitor garage day rate have different units. Put each option on the period you need, then add only the charges that actually apply. Include the overnight requirement before declaring the cheaper option.

Compare a walking or transit plan as well, using the current service and operating hours that fit your schedule. The useful question is the cost and reliability of reaching class, not simply the lowest number next to the word parking.

The West Campus apartment comparison puts parking into a full lease calculation. The attendance-cost guide explains why a university transportation budget is different from your actual permit bill.

Use the visitor tariff or the current purchase path

For a short visit, PTS directs visitors to university garages, with ticketed entry and payment based on the stay. Its visitor page says ordinary garage visitors do not need a permit. Surface spaces and street parking have their own permit and posted-hour requirements; do not assume a campus visit is free after business hours.

For a student permit, follow the current renewal and purchase instructions and the applicable R/S waitlist process. The student table retains links for an earlier permit year beside 2026–27 instructions, so choose the correct year in the official portal. A published sale date or waitlist is not confirmation of available space.

Consider the official CapMetro alternatives and current service calendar. PTS describes fare-free riding with a valid UT photo ID, while route, direction, service day and last return determine whether it fits your trip. A cheap parking permit is not useful if its access hours miss your schedule.

Read the complete garage tariff, including its full duration bands and special garage schedules. An ordinary visitor table does not override a posted event rate.

Questions answered

Which permit can a commuter or dorm resident buy?

Use the dedicated class rules: C is described for off-campus UT students, S for non-dorm residents and R for eligible residence-hall residents. A permit’s garage, hours, sales limit and waitlist still matter; the overview alone does not establish your purchase eligibility.

What is the cheapest option for evenings and weekends?

The 2026–27 student table lists N at $56 and N+ at $93 for their full terms. N is for specified surface access; N+ adds specified garages. Neither gives unrestricted daytime or 24-hour vehicle storage. Check the location-specific hours and exclusions.

Official instructions · Checked 2026-10-27

Can I park overnight?

It depends on the exact permit and location. C and Longhorn Lots exclude 3–5 a.m.; PTS directs non-dorm residents needing storage to an S option with a storage fee, and dorm residents to R. Night-garage access also has an end time. A general garage label is not enough.

Official instructions · Checked 2026-10-27

Is my apartment parking separate?

Yes. A university permit does not supply an apartment space, and an apartment parking agreement does not supply a UT permit. Keep the full period, assigned-space terms, access and charges from each agreement separately.

Official instructions · Checked 2026-10-27

What changes on football or Moody Center event days?

Signs, notices and event-specific access or relocation rules can change ordinary use. For Manor and Trinity, PTS says Moody event staffing can block entry, usually starting 2–3 hours before showtime, even when existing cars need not move. Read the applicable event notice.
