Tour the apartment you would actually live in

A model shows a version of the building. Your decision depends on the assigned room, the route to class and the terms that follow you home.

Start the tour checklist

Start with the room and the quote

  • Ask whether you are seeing the assigned apartment, a similar layout or a decorated model. Write down the building, floor, room type and plan label.
  • Compare the quoted plan with the tour: bedroom door and window, bathroom access, furniture, laundry, storage and accessible features.
  • Ask what can change before assignment and whether the lease guarantees any requested floor, view or roommate.
  • Take the complete fee schedule and payment calendar with you. A verbal special needs written conditions and an expiry date.

Test your ordinary week

Walk from the residence entrance to the class building you use, then consider the trip home at your normal hour. Visit near your sleep or study hours if noise matters. Check the route after the last bus, during breaks and when you carry groceries.

  • Check the front door, parcel collection, laundry, bicycle storage and the route from parking to your room.
  • Ask how to report urgent maintenance, deal with a lockout and reach staff after hours.
  • For pools, gyms or study rooms, confirm which building you may use, hours, charges and closures. A photograph is not an access guarantee.
  • Ask about active construction and access disruptions. Ask for the exact accommodation process if you need a specific feature.

Access-control equipment and a short visit do not establish that a building is safe. Read the crime research with its geographic limits and attributable resident accounts separately.

Make a remote tour specific

  • Request a live walkthrough of the exact room where possible, starting with an identifiable building entrance and continuing to the unit.
  • Ask the host to show windows, storage, appliance condition, outlets, bathroom and the view beyond the window. Request dimensions for furniture you must bring.
  • Save the floor plan and written answers; ask which promises will appear in the lease.
  • Verify the property and payment recipient using an independently located official channel before sending application money or documents.

A video tour helps inspect the space. It does not replace the written contract or verify someone’s authority to collect a payment.
