Which summer session fits my calendar?

The 2026–27 calendar divides summer into four sessions. The table shows class dates; finals follow the last class day. The Course Schedule gives dates and meeting times for the section you choose.

Nine-week TermJune 3July 27

May Term runs May 4–June 2 and belongs to the spring semester. Don’t treat it as one of these summer sessions.

When do I register?

Continuing and readmitted students have summer and fall registration April 5–16, 2027. Your own access time and holds are on RIS.

When the summer Course Schedule is available, compare the section’s unique number, session, prerequisites and daily meeting pattern with your degree plan. A three-hour class still needs the full course’s work even when it fits into fewer weeks.

  1. Check your degree audit and the Course Schedule.
  2. Match the section’s dates and meeting times to your other commitments.
  3. Clear the holds on RIS and register during your assigned access time.
  4. Review My Tuition Bill and finish payment or attendance confirmation.
  5. Save the add, drop and grading deadlines for that session.

Can I pay summer tuition in installments?

One Stop says tuition installments aren’t available for summer. The Registrar’s calendar nevertheless contains installment wording for summer add bills. Until One Stop confirms how that applies to your bill, budget for paying the amount due by its deadline.

The calendar lists May 19, 2027, at 5 p.m. Central as the undergraduate summer payment deadline. Your registration period or later changes can produce a different bill, so use the deadline displayed in My Tuition Bill.

Will my financial aid cover summer?

UT requires at least six registered hours for an undergraduate summer aid offer. Summer 2027 uses the 2026–27 FAFSA, and most summer offers consist of loans. If you used your full annual federal loan amount in fall and spring, UT says it can’t offer additional summer federal loan funding.

One 3-hour class falls below that six-hour aid threshold. Two 3-hour classes meet the hour count, but the sessions and your remaining eligibility still matter. Ask One Stop before you add a second class just to pursue aid.

Is the shorter session worth it?

Compare what the course unlocks next fall with the weeks of work and housing it needs now. A prerequisite that lets you take the next course may be worth a summer in Austin; an elective you can take later may not be.

Commit when the class fits your degree, you can attend the whole session, and the bill works with aid already shown in your account. A shorter calendar doesn’t make the course or the bill smaller.

How we got this

Session dates come from the Registrar; payment and summer-aid rules come from One Stop. The conflicting summer installment language is identified beside the payment advice. No summer 2027 price or course availability is assumed. Checked October 28, 2026. This is an independent undergraduate guide, not a decision on your own eligibility.
