When and how do I apply to graduate from UT Austin?

Apply through your college in the semester you’ll finish your degree. For fall 2026, the deadlines are December 19 in Natural Sciences and December 7 in Liberal Arts.

Which deadline applies to you?

Texas One Stop directs undergraduates to their college or school because the forms and deadlines differ. For fall 2026, Natural Sciences lists September 1 through December 19; Liberal Arts lists September 10 through December 7 and had an October 27 priority deadline that has now passed. Your own college’s page controls.

UT awards undergraduate degrees in December, May and August. Apply for the term when all courses, minors, certificates, transfer work and other requirements will be finished, not simply the term when you plan to attend a ceremony. Commencement and degree completion are separate.

What should you check before applying?

Run a fresh Interactive Degree Audit for every major. Confirm the catalog, major, minors and certificates are correct, then review every incomplete line with your adviser. One Stop says IDA is a planning tool and doesn’t replace the official audit or graduation application.

Resolve missing transfer courses and credit by exam early. Liberal Arts, for example, tells fall applicants to have required exam credit claimed and 120 hours including current UT courses. If a final course will arrive from another school, ask your college for its transcript deadline.

How do you complete the final-semester steps?

  1. Open your college’s graduation page and save its deadline.
  2. Run IDA, declare required minors or certificates, and ask your adviser about any missing requirement.
  3. Submit your college’s graduation application for the correct term.
  4. Save the confirmation and check the application status or follow-up messages.
  5. Send final outside transcripts by your college’s deadline.

What if I’m finishing away from campus?

Tell the graduation office if you aren’t enrolled in residence at UT during the graduation term. Natural Sciences requires an in absentia registration form in addition to its online application. Other colleges may have their own form, so use the instructions for your degree.

If you miss your college’s published deadline, contact its graduation office immediately. UT doesn’t publish one university-wide late process or promise that a late application will be accepted.

What happens after you apply?

Keep checking your UT email and application status. Finish current courses, verify that outside work arrives, clear any questions from your graduation office and confirm where the diploma should go. An application starts the final review; it doesn’t guarantee the degree before grades and requirements are checked.

Submit once your college, term and degree details are right. If the audit still has a gap, don’t guess that the graduation form fixes it—take the gap to your adviser and leave with the exact next action.

How we got this

The university route and degree-audit limits come from One Stop; the dated examples and extra steps come from the linked college pages. Checked October 28, 2026; students must use their own college’s current deadline.
